Editorial policy
Open Arts Journal aims to make arts writing clear, grounded and fair. We distinguish description from interpretation and take care not to present an opinion as an established fact.
Accuracy and context
We check factual statements against suitable sources and use context that helps readers understand the subject rather than decorate it. When a detail is uncertain or disputed, we say so plainly. We avoid invented quotations, credentials, events and claims of first-hand experience.
Independence and partnerships
Editorial choices are made for readers, not shaped by a partner's preferred verdict. Paid, sponsored or partner material is identified clearly where it appears, and we distinguish it from independent editorial coverage. A collaboration does not guarantee favourable coverage.
Corrections and illustrations
If we find a meaningful error, we correct it and make the change clear when appropriate. Readers can send corrections through the Contact page. Some illustrations may be generated with AI; where that is the case, we label them so readers can tell an illustrative image from a documentary one.
Looking closely opens more doors
A detail can change how a work reads. We make room for careful observation, useful context and more than one thoughtful response.
